We are Proud to be Full Members of

The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP)

When you instruct JT AccountS to work on your Wills, Trust and Estate Administration, it means you can be confident that we possess the specialist knowledge and skills required to carry out your wishes.  You can be assured that you will be in expert hands and we are taking all the necessary actions to plan for the future of your assets.

Membership of STEP is a very reliable quality mark. Membership is open to all Will Writers in England and Wales. However, in order to become a member, you need to pass four very intense exams dealing with Wills, Administration of Estates, Trusts, Tax and Accounts which is exactly what JT AccountS have done.

The STEP Code for Will Preparation in England & Wales is a set of ethical principles that operate for the benefit of clients and demonstrate openly the commitment of STEP members to transparency and client service. It recognises that, in providing Will preparation services, STEP members should operate within an ethical environment.  It also deals with plenty of other matters, such as keeping proper records, storing Wills safely and keeping client information confidential.

Only members of STEP can take advantage of the Code for their clients.  When a firm is displaying the STEP Will Writing Code logo, clients can be confident that they are dealing with a regulated specialist.

Inheritance Tax – What is your Current Allowance?

The current inheritance tax (IHT) allowance whereby no inheritance tax is charged is on the first £325,000 (per person) of someone’s estate – which is the value of the total assets they leave behind when they die (or 36% if leaving at least 10% to a charity). Couples can leave a home worth £650,000 without it attracting inheritance tax (singles £325,000). Above the threshold, the charge is 40%. This remains unchanged.

There comes a point in most people’s lives when they start to think about planning for their later years and eventually for when they leave this life, especially if they have dependants.
